Survivor 50 made history last night. Christian Hubicki wasn’t happy about it.
In Episode 9 of Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans — titled “I Deserve All of This” and airing April 22 on CBS — Christian became the first contestant in the show’s 23-year history to cast a vote against himself at Tribal Council. He was then voted out, becoming the 13th player eliminated from the landmark 50th season.
Jimmy Fallon Designed the Twist That Ended Christian’s Game
The whole mess traces back to a Journey twist designed by Tonight Show host and self-described Survivor superfan Jimmy Fallon. Joe Hunter won individual immunity but couldn’t decide who to send on the Journey, so he had several players settle it with rock, paper, scissors. Christian won. He immediately regretted it.
Out on a barge, Christian received a note from Fallon himself explaining the “One in the Urn” twist. The deal: complete a sea-level puzzle before weighted anchors dragged it underwater, and he’d earn a secret early vote in the urn — a massive advantage. Fail, and he’d be forced to vote for himself at Tribal Council and announce it publicly to the entire tribe. Christian didn’t finish the puzzle in time.
Back at camp, he had to read the note aloud to his tribemates. The rules were unambiguous — he had to cast a vote for himself, and that vote could not be stolen or nullified. No idol could save him from his own parchment.
“I am living a farce, and that’s why I’m rage-filled. Thanks to whoever’s bright idea this was.” — Christian Hubicki, at Tribal Council
Probst — clearly entertained — revealed during the immunity challenge that Fallon had spearheaded the twist. Christian apparently went full stand-up comedian in the voting booth and told TV Insider there was an additional five minutes of Fallon roasting that didn’t make the cut.
“This is a message for Jimmy Fallon. How dare you? This idea you had is terrible.” — Christian Hubicki, to Parade
Tribal Council — A Historic but Brutal Vote
Heading into Tribal, the mandatory self-vote actually generated sympathy for the robotics professor. Emily Flippen’s name briefly circulated as an alternative target. But Cirie Fields — playing her typical flawless double game — appeared to back an Ozzy Lusth blindside while quietly steering votes toward Christian. It worked.
Final tally: five votes for Christian (including his own), three for Rick Devens, two for Ozzy. No idols were played. Christian’s torch was snuffed, and he walked out having made Survivor history in the most painful way possible.
His final words were genuine — he dedicated his fight to showing his son that competing for what you deserve has value, even in defeat.
Fallon issued a public apology on The Tonight Show the very next night.
“It wasn’t supposed to be you and I felt so bad because I love you.” — Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show, April 23, 2026
Rick Devens Thrives on Chaos — And Is Now a Target
Devens was still riding high from last week’s fake idol spectacle — the one he and Christian orchestrated to keep themselves and Aubry Bracco safe after Chrissy Hofbeck and Coach Wade were eliminated in the Double Duo twist. Reflecting on that chaos at the opening of camp, Devens couldn’t hide his enthusiasm:
“I miss causing chaos at Tribal and tonight, I got back to my chaotic self. That’s the most fun Tribal I’ve had all season.” — Rick Devens
Cirie, naturally, saw his antics as a gift. “He just made a bullseye on his back,” she said, “and anyone who has a bigger target than me is beneficial to me in this game.” Ozzy — who also survived this week despite receiving votes — said he was “not convinced that Christian isn’t a robot walking around in human skin,” which, coming from Ozzy, honestly sounds more like a compliment.
Ten players remain: Aubry Bracco, Cirie Fields, Emily Flippen, Joe Hunter, Jonathan Young, Ozzy Lusth, Rick Devens, Rizo “Rizgod” Velovic, Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick, and Tiffany Ervin. The game is tightening fast. Devens has a massive target on his back. Cirie is pulling strings nobody can see. And somewhere, Jimmy Fallon is probably already drafting his next twist idea.
Survivor 50 airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
