It’s over. Chelsea Griffin and Kwame Appiah — one of three couples from Love Is Blind Season 4 to actually make it down the aisle — have announced they are divorcing after four years of marriage. The couple shared the news on May 15 via a joint Instagram post, a somber black-and-white photo captioned simply “Life Update” with a mending heart emoji. Any hope that it was something less final was dashed by the individual statements that followed in the next two slides.
This one stings. Kwame literally wrote Chelsea an original song called “Real Love” when he proposed in the pods. That’s not nothing. And yet here we are.
What They Said
Chelsea, 34, didn’t hold back. She called the split “heartbreaking” while making clear she gave the marriage everything she had.
“It’s heartbreaking to share that our marriage is coming to an end. This is not the outcome I hoped for, and I entered this relationship with deep love, commitment and the intention of building a lasting life together. As time went on, it became clear we are growing in different directions. I poured my whole heart into this marriage and wanted it to work until the very end, but lasting marriages require more than love alone. I trust that healing and clarity will come with time. I am strong, I am resilient, and there is still so much ahead of me, just as there was the day I stepped into the pods.”
Kwame, 36, struck a different tone — more measured, the words of someone who’s been sitting with this decision for a while.
“It’s been one of the hardest decisions to make. As difficult as it’s been to arrive here, I believe it’s in our best interest considering amongst many other things, that our ultimate life goals don’t feel aligned. We built a life filled with memories, laughter, and love that I’ll always be grateful for. We will always have respect and care for each other in everything we share.”
Fellow Season 4 alum Zack Goytowski dropped a heartfelt comment on the post, calling Chelsea “gracious, kind, and forgiving” and Kwame someone who “makes people feel accepted and heard.” His wife Bliss Poureetezadi added her own message — writing that she’s “forever in your corner and forever grateful for your friendship.”
The Season 4 Backstory
Chelsea and Kwame’s road to the altar was never entirely smooth. Kwame came into their engagement with unfinished emotional business — he had a genuine connection with fellow Season 4 contestant Micah Lussier in the pods before committing to Chelsea, though Micah ultimately chose Paul after the two realized they were more compatible. A flirty pool party moment between Kwame and Micah after the engagements became one of the most-talked-about scenes of the season. At the reunion, Kwame publicly apologized to Chelsea and her family for his behavior.
There was more to navigate. Kwame’s mother skipped the wedding entirely — he flew in his sister Barbara for the ceremony instead. The couple also had to work through Chelsea relocating to Seattle and differing timelines around having children. They managed it, or so it seemed. Chelsea even ended up helping Love Is Blind producers cast future seasons, which is about as high a seal of approval as the franchise gives its alumni.
As recently as April 29, 2026, the couple pushed back on split rumors with an Instagram Story showing them together after home renovations. Then came the missing wedding ring spotted in a photoshoot, the removal of “Appiah” from Chelsea’s Instagram handle, and the Reddit threads doing what Reddit threads do.
What This Means for Season 4’s Legacy
Season 4 produced three married couples: Chelsea and Kwame, Brett Brown and Tiffany Pennywell, and Zack Goytowski and Bliss Poureetezadi. With this split, Zack and Bliss — currently expecting their second child — and Brett and Tiffany are the last two standing from the Seattle season.
Across all ten U.S. seasons of Love Is Blind, 16 couples have said “I do” at the altar. Nine remain together today. Chelsea and Kwame join a growing list of post-show splits that includes, among others, Danielle Ruhl and Nick Thompson, Jarrette Jones and Iyanna McNeely, Colleen Reed and Matt Bolton, Alexa Alfia and Brennon Lemieux, Tyler Francis and Ashley Adionser, Amber Morrison and Jordan Faeth, and most recently Lydia Velez Gonzalez and Milton Johnson from Season 5, who announced their divorce in June 2025.
Netflix and producers at Kinetic Content had not issued a statement as of this writing. Divorce proceedings have not been formally filed in public court records.
