GiGi’s Place – Restaurant Impossible Update (OPEN)

Status: OPEN

GiGi’s Place in Covington, Georgia is a soul food restaurant where family drama was as hot as the kitchen. After Restaurant Impossible helped repair relationships between owner GiGi, her daughter, and her head chef, this Southern comfort spot continues serving the community.

Soul Food

From Side Hustle to Restaurant

Cynthia Brown – known as GiGi – didn’t start in the restaurant business. She worked in telecom but catered on the side, feeding people her soul food as a passion project. That side hustle grew until she opened a physical space in 2011.

By 2020, she had expanded to a larger location. GiGi’s Place was growing – but success brought complications.

The Episode (Season 22, Episode 11)

Air Date: March 9, 2023
Filming: October 2022
Location: 3265 Salem Rd, Covington, GA

GiGi was having health problems and needed to step back from day-to-day operations. But she couldn’t – her daughter and her head chef were constantly fighting, making delegation impossible. The restaurant’s dysfunction was keeping its owner trapped.

Repairing Relationships

Robert Irvine focused on the human drama. The food was good – that wasn’t the problem. The problem was a kitchen divided by conflict. Until GiGi’s daughter and head chef could work together, GiGi could never step away.

Restaurant Impossible had to be family therapy before it could be business consulting.

Current Status

GiGi’s Place continues operating with its original name and soulful atmosphere. Reviews since the makeover are mostly positive:

  • Customers praise the food quality
  • Friendly atmosphere consistently mentioned
  • Some complaints about pricing vs. portion size
  • Yelp Rating: 3.9 stars (117+ reviews)

The restaurant is now available on multiple delivery platforms – DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub – expanding its reach beyond the dining room.

GiGi’s Place shows that sometimes the biggest obstacle to a restaurant’s success isn’t the food or the customers – it’s the relationships in the kitchen.
