A Family Legacy

Sunnyside Cafe isn’t just a business for Jeanette – it’s her history. She worked at the cafe as a child when her mother owned it. When the restaurant eventually closed, Jeanette and her siblings reopened it together, preserving their family’s legacy.

In 2019, Jeanette purchased the restaurant from her brother, taking full ownership. But with ownership came control issues that were driving the cafe into trouble.

Robert Irvine found a breakfast joint with big problems. Owner Jeanette was an intense micromanager who alienated her staff and refused to make any changes – inside or out. Her grip on every detail was strangling the business.

The Transformation

Beyond the physical renovation, Robert had to help Jeanette learn to trust her team. Micromanagement doesn’t just burn out the manager – it drives away good employees and prevents a business from growing.

Expanded Operations

One sign of post-makeover success: Sunnyside Cafe expanded its hours to include evening service on certain nights. That’s not something a struggling restaurant does – it’s a sign of growth and confidence.

Current Reviews

Reviews since the makeover are mixed but generally positive:

  • Positives: Food quality, new décor, friendly staff
  • Complaints: Some service issues, higher prices
  • Google Rating: 4.2 stars

The cafe maintains an active social media presence with daily specials and community engagement.
