The Controversy
The family had taken in Charles Higgins and four of his siblings. After the home was built, the Higgins children alleged that the Leomiti family pressured them into leaving the home.
In 2005, the five Black children alleged they were evicted from the home after the show aired. Their case was ultimately dismissed, but the controversy highlighted questions about the show’s vetting process.

This case demonstrated the importance of follow-up and the complexity of family dynamics that a week of filming cannot fully reveal.
