O’Kelley’s Irish Pub (Pastimes on 4th) – Bar Rescue Update (CLOSED)

Status: CLOSED (July 2017)

O’Kelley’s Irish Pub (renamed Pastimes on 4th by Jon Taffer) was a St. Louis, Missouri bar that appeared on Bar Rescue Season 4 in 2016. Despite the intervention, the bar was put up for sale almost immediately after the episode aired and eventually closed.

Bar Interior

The Episode

O’Kelley’s Irish Pub sat near Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. Owner Andrea had purchased the sports bar in 2011 and initially saw success, making $75,000. But when the manager at her other restaurant quit, she had to split her attention.

She made her nephew Cameron head bartender and longtime employee Kim the manager. By the time Bar Rescue arrived, they were losing $6,500 monthly and $700,000 in debt.

Taffer’s Intervention

Jon Taffer renamed the bar to Pastimes on 4th, emphasizing its proximity to the baseball stadium and the sports bar concept. Expert mixologist Shawn Ford and chef Mike Ferraro helped overhaul operations.

The changes transformed O’Kelley’s from a generic Irish pub into a focused sports destination. The location near the Cardinals stadium was perfect for the new concept.

After the Show

Unfortunately, Pastimes on 4th had a troubled history after filming. The bar was listed for sale in April 2016 – the same month the episode aired. Andrea blamed poor sales on competition from other sports bars opening in the area.

Ten weeks after the relaunch, Pastimes had generated only $15,376 in food and beverage sales – far below what was needed to survive.

The Closure

Pastimes on 4th closed in July 2017. The bar was sold to new owners who didn’t want to continue with the Pastimes concept.

What’s There Now

As of 2022, the location is occupied by The Honky Tonk STL, a country-themed bar that has found its own audience near the stadium.

Connection to Restaurant Impossible

Interestingly, Andrea is also co-owner of Mama Campisi’s, which was featured on Restaurant Impossible in 2013. She has the unusual distinction of appearing on both major restaurant rescue shows.
